cougartown

So much for my Family Jules idea.

The exhaustive search for a new title for ABC’s Cougar Town—one that better reflects the show’s evolution from single-woman-on-the-prowl sitcom to dysfunctional-family comedy—has been scrapped, exec producer Bill Lawrence confirms to me exclusively.

“I’m not changing the title,” Lawrence tells me. “We never thought of a good new one, which kind of sucks. And when you look at the modern landscape of television, changing the title means changing your DVR and all this other stuff.”

Lawrence says he’s hopeful the publicity surrounding the proposed title change will “get the message out” that Cougar Town has become a different (and vastly improved) show.

“It’ll be a funny burden to have,” he shrugs. “It might be the worst titled show of all time.”

Thoughts? Do you agree that it’s too late to fix the show’s broken title? Are you comfortable telling your friends that your favorite comedy is called Cougar Town? (I am!) Sound off below!

Remember when Courteney said she had a crush on Zac Efron? Seems like it’s mutual :) At the premiere of his new movie a few days ago,Zac was interviewed on the red carpet and was asked who he had a crush on. He answered Courteney Cox of course. I love the bit where he calls David Arquette ‘Davey’ haha.

You will need to skip right to the end to see where Zac talks about Courteney.

On Sunday evening, the stars shined brighter than ever for children struggling with life-threatening illnesses. The We Promise Foundation’s Red Carpet Celebrity and Designer Handbag Auction came to a close raising a total of $3,162 to help make children’s dreams come true.

The Red Carpet Celebrity and Designer Handbag Auction offered incredible designer handbags and accessories from celebrities including Courteney Cox, Alana Stewart, Kelly Preston, Kristin Cavallari, Megan Kelly, and some world-renowned designers such as Salvatore Ferragamo, Michael Kors and Mary Frances. Courteney Cox’s PRADA messenger handbag and the Salvatore Ferragamo Python Tote handbag were the fan favorites. With all items starting at just $.99, eBay bidders had the opportunity to bag a one-of-a-kind luxury item while making a life-changing difference for kids in the community.

“We were really thrilled with the generosity of the celebrities, design houses, and supporters who donated to the auction,” said We Promise Foundation’s Executive Director, Jill Haag. “Many of them had never participated in one of our events, and it was amazing to have their support as they connected to our cause. When they found out more about We Promise, they were happy to lend a handbag. And with the money we’ve raised, we’re able to make 8-year-old Katelyn’s dream to go to Disney World come true.”

Through the foundation’s partnership with eBay’s GivingWorks, 100% of the final sale of these items will help make dreams come true for children struggling with life-threatening illnesses and severe hardship. The first three films were famous for their plot twists and surprise endings, and by the looks of it, the next instalment will be no different.

Courteney Cox was photographed on the set of Scream 4 clutching the famous ghost mask worn by her former nemesis, the killer. This has led to speculation that she might be switching sides in this film, and donning the costume that has terrified audiences for more than a decade.
Courteney’s character, news reporter Gale Weathers, could also have just found the mask discarded, and is being chased herself.Either way, fans will have to wait until the film’s release in April 2011 to find out.

On location on a remote farm outside Detroit, Courteney, 46, looked a little nervous to be standing amongst the dark forest, despite being surrounded by film crew. The actress was wearing a casual outfit of leather jacket, black jeans and boots, suggesting she will be filming a a chase scene.Whether she will be the pursuer or pursued remains to be seen.

Earlier that day, a barn t the location was set up to look like a typical horror scene from the film franchise, with ’scarecrows’ wearing the killer’s outfit of ghost mask and cape erected around the premises with bloodied knives attached.

The entire cast have been hard at work, filming every day in several locations around Michigan.Courteney was photographed in a more glamorous outfit on set earlier this week, looking immaculate in a tight purple dress and matching heels. Her husband David Arquette, as well as new cast members Hayden Panettiere, Emma Roberts and Adam Brody have also been spotted shooting scenes for the film.

Cox has ensured that she won’t be outshone by her younger co-stars, and revealed to the August issue of US InStyle magazine that she uses Botox to stay fresh.

‘Aging gracefully is one thing, but trying to slow it down is another. Sometimes I use Botox. Compared to most, I use it very sparingly.’

The actress admitted to going overboard in the past.

She said, ‘I feel weird if I can’t move my face, and that one time I overdid it, I felt trapped in my own skin.’

Courtney CoxWhat’s your take on Botox?

“Aging gracefully is one thing, but trying to slow it down is another. Sometimes I use Botox. Compared to most, I use it very sparingly. One time I did too much, though. I feel weird if I can’t move my face, and that one time I overdid it, I felt trapped in my own skin. I don’t have a problem with any of that stuff; if it makes you feel better about yourself and it’s done properly, then fine.”

Was there a moment in your career where you almost gave it all up for something else?

“No—although there was a time when my dad thought I should get out. It was right before I got Friends, and I probably had a month to go before I was completely broke. I used to add up all my money in the bank and divide it by months or weeks depending on how bad things were. At one point my dad called me and said, “You have always been a great salesman. I think it’s time you come home and sell swimming pools.” I don’t think I would ever quit acting, but there are other things I am interested in. I wanted to be an architect, and I wish I knew more about landscaping. I think I’d be a good therapist too.” (Photographed for InStyle by Jenny Gage and Tom Betterton)

Courteney is LONG overdue for an Emmy! Besides, is Lea even funny?

I was in total agreement with the Emmy nominations announced July 8… until it came time for Best Actress in a Comedy Series. There were the usual suspects like Tina Fey and Julia Louis-Dreyfus, both of whom I agree belonged on the list, but when I saw Lea Michele nominated for Glee over Courteney Cox for Cougar Town, I couldn’t believe my eyes.

Not only is Cougar Town one of the most under-appreciated comedies on TV right now, but Courteney’s Jules became consistently funnier and more engaging throughout the show’s first season. Meanwhile, Lea’s Rachel never stopped being annoying — and never started being funny.

And this is hardly the first time Courteney has been snubbed by the Emmys. During Friends‘ 10-season run, Courteney was the only to never receive a nomination. Jennifer Aniston, Lisa Kudrow, Matt LeBlanc, Matthew Perry and David Schwimmer were all recognized for their work.

Courteney is hilarious. She at least deserves to be nominated for an Emmy. Case closed.

But you tell me: Am I crazy? Does Lea, in fact, deserve the Emmy nom over Courteney?

emmy-snubs

The 2010 Emmy Award nominations are in, and while there are certainly reasons to celebrate — nods for Glee‘s Chris Colfer and Modern Family‘s Sofia Vergara, for starters — I can’t help feeling like a dog staring down a bowl of cold kibble while the whole family sits down to the table for a juicy steak dinner. Too early for that kind of heavy food metaphor? Okay, let’s start ranting about the snubs that have us all seething with fury — because it’ll be hard to even process the full list of nominees until we’ve released the pressure in our chest cavities over the ones that got away. Oh, and just so this post doesn’t turn into a rioting mob armed with brickbats and torches, be sure to finish your screed by sharing the nomination that made you happiest. I’ll get us started…you pick up the baton in the comments below. Okay, here goes…

Where the heck is the love for Ugly Betty‘s Vanessa L. Williams? I know, I know, the folks at Emmy HQ have already sent instructions to their engraving department telling them to get started on Jane Lynch’s statuette for Best Supporting Actress in a Comedy. But I was hoping that after four magnificent years of bringing to life unrelentingly bitchy fashion editor Wilhelmina Slater, Williams might finally get her due. I mean, this is a woman who got the nation to fall in love with her character while spewing lines like “My favorite moment of the day is throwing out my breakfast muffin in front of a homeless person!”

And while we’re on the subject of comedic actors, how about Cougar Town‘s Courteney Cox? True, the pilot about her man-hunting, sex-obsessed fortysomething turned off some folks, but by the end of the season, Cox was leading a hilarious weekly ensemble party, one punctuated with surprising touches of poignancy, and liberal pours of vino.

Which snubs are too much for you to bear? Release your pain and rage in the comments below!
