Courteney Cox and her husband, David Arquette, threw a yummy do for 12 friends and family members on Wednesday night to watch the series premiere of Court’s new gal-empowerment show, Cougar Town—and she and her buds chowed down big-time! Of course, bestie Jen Aniston wasn’t there (she’s in N.Y. filming that Gerard Butler job, apparently crying over the romantic scenes that remind her so much of that bad-boy ex of hers ). Our calorie-conscious eyes tell us the Arquettes catered the affair at their Beverly Hills home with takeout out from Courteney’s fave restaurant, Il Sole. But get this: Want to know how C maintains her still-lithe figure? Here’s what she devoured…
Damn Dover sole, that’s what! Meanwhile, David went for the seven-layer lasagna (what, three or four aren’t enough?), and steak and cheese ravioli was ’round, too, for guests who preferred the pasta stuff.
But it’s only fair to report Courteney did indulge in some tagliolini with white truffles, her weakness. So glad to hear she has one. Would be kind of hard to avoid, you know, with a BFF whose diet consists mostly of cigarettes, tequila and unavailable men.
Critics are having their say today and they’re pretty mixed about the new ABC comedy “Cougar Town” starring Courteney Cox, who plays a real estate agent in a fictional town near Sarasota.
The series, co-created by Riverview High School grad Kevin Biegel and “Scrubs” creator Bill Lawrence, has its premiere at 9:30 p.m. Wednesday on ABC.
The New York Times said the show is “funny even when its heroine is not.”
The Times said “the dialogue, timing and jokes have the madcap pace and anarchic spirit of ‘Scrubs’ and it takes a while for Cox to recalibrate her Monica persona from ‘Friends.’ To her credit, Cox is game for anything, and the humor is raunchy and Seth Rogenish.”
TV Guide critic Matt Roush writes, “The show’s a little frantic and more than a little crude, but the jokes keep coming and many of them score.” He added, “Watching Cox accentuate her body-image flaws may seem preposterous to most of us, but her goofy self-deprecation is quite endearing.”
USA Today’s Robert Bianco says that Cox makes a “sparkling return to television” as Jules Cobb, and that she is “not only convincing but touching – and unfailingly funny.”
The Los Angeles Times, while acknolwedging “some funny lines and good acting all around,” said it is a “crude show, built on jokes about oral sex and droopy breasts, a show in which words like “coochie” are used with regrettable abandon.”
The Boston Globe rates the show as a C+, saying it “has the potential to be more than a one-joke affair, although Cox hitting on high schoolers is not exactly ha-ha funny. Let’s see how it develops.”
Courteney Cox’s Cougar Town made a decent premiere on ABC last night, according to early viewing figures.
The half-hour comedy, which aired at 9.30pm, pulled in an impressive 11.44m. Earlier on ABC, Dancing With The Stars logged 15m during the 8pm hour, then 12.74m tuned in for the series premiere of Modern Family. Rebecca Romijn-fronted Eastwick opened to 8.53m at 10pm.
Elsewhere, NBC’s new medical drama Mercy debuted to 8.25m during the 8pm hour, beating Fox’s So You Think You Can Dance, which took 5.6m, and America’s Next Top Model, which averaged 2.84m for The CW.
CBS’s 8pm hour was made up of The New Adventures Of Old Christine and Gary Unmarried, which premiered to 7.68m and 7.37m at 8pm and 8.30pm respectively.
Criminal Minds led the 9pm hour, pulling in 17.42m for CBS. Also at 9pm, Fox’s Glee managed 6.62m, 8.36m watched Law & Order: SVU on NBC and The CW’s The Beautiful Life managed 1.09m.
At 10pm, 14.57m tuned in for the new season premiere of CSI: NY, and The Jay Leno Show interested 6.43m for NBC.
Courteney Cox know who the perfect prey for her new series, Cougar Town would be — Zac Efron!
The former Friends star dished to ET, saying, “Zac Efron would be perfect, but Zac probably has too much confidence to be real prey for a cougar. You know you’re a cougar when you’re attracted to your son’s friends. You know you’re a cougar when you’re attracted to your daughter’s — who’s five — idols, which is where I come in.”
Zac has already worked with Courteney’s former costar and on-screen husband, Matthew Perry, in 17 Again.
The ‘Scream’ co-stars – who have been marred for 10 years and have a five-year-old daughter, Coco – met shortly before they started filming the horror franchise and while the actor was smitten straight away, he admits it took him time to win over the former ‘Friends’ actress.
He said: “Was it love at first sight? For me it was, but not for her. I had to trick her.“We met at a pre-party before we started filming Scream. I was being a little cocky and Courteney was like, ‘Ah, I’ve heard of you,’ and we just kept flirting for a while. She’s just so gorgeous and she jokes around so much.”
The couple are now happily settled in Los Angeles but David admits he can’t believe how quickly time has passed since Coco was born.He is quoted by website Celebrity Baby Blog: “Courteney and I were watching videos of her when she was two and she was just so cute. It really does go so fast.
“I said, ‘Coco, I’m going to bring you back something from New York. What do you want?’ And she said, ‘A dress. Bring me back a long dress,’ because she can wear dresses now she’s in ‘big girl school’. She’s just the best… so much fun. She really is great.”
Courteney, 45, is currently enjoying success with new TV Show ‘Cougar Town’ but the 38-year-old actor says he won’t make any guest appearances because he is too old.
He joked: “They’re telling me I’m a little to old to be cougar bait now. It’s sad, but so true!”However, the couple will reunite on-screen in the near future after signing up to appear in the fourth ‘Scream’ movie. David added: “To work with Courteney again is amazing.”
In her new show actress Courteney Cox Arquette plays a 40-year-old, newly divorced mom who is back in the dating game. In preparation for the role, Cox Arquette got into incredible shape by exercising on the revolutionary Power Plate(R) machine.
“The Power Plate(R) machine has dramatically changed my workout. I know that every muscle in my body is being ignited in ways that you can’t do with traditional training. Its uses are limitless. I love this machine!” says Cox Arquette.
Power Plate(R) technology provides one of the most efficient and dynamic total-body workouts in less than 30 minutes utilizing scientifically-proven Advanced Vibration Technology(TM) that triggers involuntary muscle reactions 25-50 times per second while you exercise. The result is a high-intensity exercise that increases strength, improves muscle tone and balance and helps reduce body fat. A recent study found that Power Plate(R) exercise helped participants lose more weight than traditional exercise.
“My clients, like Courteney Cox Arquette, prefer Power Plate(R) machines to tone, tighten and get red-carpet ready in less time,” says celebrity trainer Michelle Lovitt. “If your schedule doesn’t always allow time for traditional exercise, Power Plate(R) Acceleration Training(TM) is great because you get a full, targeted workout in as little as three 30-minute sessions a week, and still see amazing results.”
Used by elite athletes, celebrities, and people from all walks of life, Power Plate(R) equipment benefits include: increased fitness, strength, muscle tone, flexibility, bone density and range of motion as well as improved blood circulation and lymphatic system activation. The complete Power Plate(R) line of fitness equipment is designed for health clubs, wellness centers, spas, hospitals, physical therapy and rehabilitation clinics, professional and collegiate athletic training facilities, private fitness trainers and home use.
