Courteney Cox has embraced her position as one of Hollywood’s most celebrated ‘cougars’.

The 45-year-old former Friends star – who is wedded to David Arquette, 37 – stars and produces new TV comedy Cougar Town, which follows a middle-aged woman attempting to rediscover her sexuality in the wake of a divorce.

Speaking to People magazine, Courtney said: “I am a cougar, I don’t take offence to the word – David’s much younger than me and he loves older women, I mean, why not date someone younger if you can?”

But David is unsure if the marriage qualifies as a true May to September relationship.

“I’m too old to be considered cougar bait,” he said.

He joked: “I’m a little concerned. I’d have to be in my mid-20s for this to be a cougar thing. I really fall in the middle, so for me it’s kind of sad.”

Hungry people throughout the United States will be helped as the result of September’s month-long food drive Feeding America campaign.The program will pull into 30 cities this month to collect canned food for distribution.According to The Cheese Factory, people donating two cans of food or more will receive:

It definitely would make for good TV on Cougar Town, Cox’s upcoming ABC comedy in which she plays a 40-year-old single mom who has a thing for younger dudes.

“Why don’t we get the Twilight guys,” Cox’s costar Busy Philipps told me today during a set visit by the Cheesecake Factory and Feeding America (more on that after the jump). “That would be awesome.”

Cox is into the idea. “We’ll have to do that,” she said. “If the show is a success I’m sure it will be easy to do. But we’ll have to see how it goes first.”

Also on Cox’s plate? Scream 4!…

As I was the first to tell you, Cox and hubby David Arquette have signed on for the fourth installment of the ghostface-killer movie franchise. Storyline is still under wraps, but Arquette hinted at a possible new addition to the Scream family. “Dewey and Gail may have a child,” he said.

Arquette visited the Cougar Town and Scrubs sets today to help kick off the Cheesecake Factory’s “Drive Out Hunger” campaign, a 30-city tour that hopes to collect 100,000 soup cans for Feeding America before Sept. 30

David is also producing a benefit concert for Feeding America on Sept. 29 in L.A., with performances by friends like Sheryl Crowe and Ben Harper. “It’s the time to be dedicated to this,” Arquette said. “People are hurting out there and people need help.”

Awareness studies from Nielsen go to all the networks to help them determine how many potential viewers are aware of their new shows… And if the broadcasters need to adjust their marketing messages… Some of this is a slippery slope because, say, a network show is premiering late and the marketing has barely begun… Spinoffs and remakes (NCIS, Cleveland Show, Melrose Place, SNL) tend to have higher awareness than new originals… Dramas usually have higher awareness than sitcoms at this stage of the summer because they start production earlier and have more footage to show… So, with those warnings:

The brunette stripped down to her undies for a raunchy scene in Cougar Town, which airs in the States next month.

Dressed in a skimpy pair of black and white knickers and matching bra, the actress barely looked older than when she first shot onto our screens as neurotic Monica Gellar in Friends fifteen years ago.

Her character in the show, Jules, is a single mum with a teenage son who is back on the prowl after a messy divorce.

Courteney’s Cox’s ‘Spotlight’ for Avon was originally to be released in June 2009 in the United Kingdom. Avon had now revealed that us unlucky Brits will have to wait an extra few months as the release of the dazzling Spotlight fragrance has now been pushed back to November 2009.

Courteney Cox is “very excited” about making Scream 4.

The former Friends actress is treating her return to the slasher movie series as a chance for her and husband David Arquette to get romantic.

“I’m very excited. It will be fun,” says Courteney. “David and I are going to do it right back on the set where we first met. It’s going to be so exciting for us in many ways.”

Courteney’s character will reflect her real-life status in Scream 4– married with a child. But the actress insists she won’t have her real daughter, Coco, join the rest of the family on set. “I wouldn’t do that to her,” she says.

Cox, 45, recently admitted the tactic for any woman over 40 looking for love is to play the field — just like her pal and former costar Jennifer Aniston.

“You’ve just got to be willing to put yourself out there,” she said. “I’m sure it’s not easy but there are people in the same situation. You’re not alone.”
